Numerous paper products are designed only to be discarded after a single use. We are of the opinion that paper can do more. Paper is a medium to tell stories, brand and express culture, and people prefer to retain, exhibit and recollect it through structure, overlay and considered ingenuity. Nonetheless, it is not that easy to transform this belief into the mass-produced reality. Designers who are creative usually do not have knowledge in manufacturing and the production teams do not know the intent of the art. The outcome is scaled prototypes which cannot be scaled or even bulk orders which lose magic. Our paper engineering solutions solve this problem as they bring the two worlds to the same roof. Phase One: Concept and Custom Development
Any project is initiated by an idea. Your brand narrative, your product form, your cultural icon, we make them into a stratified paper form. Our design center in Beijing focuses on the development of flat concepts in 3D stories. We sell prebuilt paper sculpture frameworks and content solutions that are developed entirely on a custom basis. In the case of custom work, we collaborate with your group in order to get to know the desired experience. Is the 3D sculpture going to be disclosed by means of a tear-off memo pad? Will it be a survival on its own as a decoration? What is the contribution of interactivity? These are questions that we use in designing. We then create samples that will portray the visual as well as the physical feeling of your brand.
Phase Two: Engineering for Scalable Production
It would be just a pretty prototype that can not be copied consistently in thousands. It is here that our paper engineering solutions stand out. Shenzhen manufacturing hub has the required capacity to produce 3D paper sculpture products in high volumes that are precise and consistent. Each layer of the product is engineered to be laser cut with precision, adhesive, and structural integrity. Sheet alignment is ensured, tolerances are defined,and assembly sequences are standardized. By coming up with systems as opposed to one off products, we are able to make sure that unit number 5,000 appears and feels the same way as unit number one. The custom development lead times are normally 4 to 6 weeks and the mass production may take 2 to 3 weeks more depending on the volume and complexity of the order.
Phase Three: Quality Control and Reliable Delivery
Paper engineering solutions are not limited to the production. All of the batches produced by Mociworld are subject to a layer of quality control, sheet alignment inspection, laser-cut precision inspection, adhesive strength inspection and final assembly inspection. We also develop specific protection packages to be used in shipping the delicate 3D buildings internationally, so that they would not be damaged. This is reflected in our prime product, the 3D Memo Pad. On the one hand it appears to be an ordinary note block, but on the other hand there is a well thought-out sculpture within it, which is revealed on a page by a page. The pads must tear away cleanly, reveal smoothly, and stand upright once fully revealed. This is made possible by our integrated system on scale.
